A week of big conversations, bigger connections an A week of big conversations, bigger connections and a creative community showing up in full force! From the panels to the people in between — this is what it looked like.

Grateful to have been part of it.

The best part of the Africa Creative Market 2026 w The best part of the Africa Creative Market 2026 wasn’t even on the schedule. 😄

Some of my favourite moments from the week were the random ones — catching up with fellow creatives from Zambia and Nigeria in between sessions, swapping stories, laughing way too much, and just being in the same room as people who get exactly what this work takes.

Grateful for this community. Different countries, same hustle, same love for the craft.

The community sits off the national grid entirely… no reference point for what that means until you’re there as the light goes.

I remember one teacher walking me through what evenings used to look like before the solar lights arrived: marking books by torch or not at all, children finishing homework in the dark or leaving it for morning. Small, unremarkable adjustments that add up to something larger.

The lights themselves are unglamorous — solid, repairable, built to be fixed rather than replaced. That felt like the real story. Not the technology, but the deliberateness behind it.

Thank you @fairpicture_org for the opportunity to tell this story.
Tomorrow, Wed 1 July, I’m on the panel “The Bu Tomorrow, Wed 1 July, I’m on the panel “The Business of Creativity: Building a Structured and Sustainable Creative Business,” part of the Business of Photography track at ACM 2026, Mulungushi International Conference Centre, Lusaka.

For over a decade I’ve built a documentary and commercial photography practice, working with organisations such as the UN and its agencies, Sightsavers, GIZ, Save the Children and many more. Alongside it all, building Chalo Chatu, a project documenting and preserving Zambia’s history.

None of that happened by accident. It happened because I started treating the craft like a business.

That’s what this panel is about: how African creatives can turn talent into a real, lasting livelihood.

If you’re a photographer, filmmaker or documentary storyteller just starting out or figuring out how to scale — come through. Ask the hard questions. I’ll answer them honestly.

There are stories you tell from a distance… and There are stories you tell from a distance… and then there are stories you stand right inside of.

Eye health is something deeply personal to me. Having worked closely with patients, health workers and communities over the years, I’ve seen how something as simple as sight can shape dignity, independence and opportunity. It’s more than medicine, it’s humanity.
